Enrich your Healing Practices: a direct connection with a Hawaiian Kumu
Practitioners of healing all over the world share ancestral roots somewhere down the line. We are all indigenous and we are at work to restore health, wellness and balance in the world. The world needs healers right now and cultural healing practices ensure we remember our connection and move forward on the pathway that our ancestors laid before us.
Lomilomi is one of the traditional practices of Hawaiian healing that has been passed down for generations and has grown and evolved with the changing times. Lomilomi entered into the realm of healing by first understanding the Hawaiian spiritual foundation and then applying this knowledge with wisdom, prayer and an unwavering knowing of the existence of a power outside and higher than oneself. Whether it be Lomilomi or another healing art is only possible because of the healer and we must remember our place in healing; we are not the healer, we are merely a conduit.
Traditional Lomilomi derives from a much older grandfather teaching called Hamohamo. While this is not taught today, the source of this healing practice remains with Spirit and practitioners align themselves to be a conduit for the spirit giving massage. Lomilomi is not cosmetic or a technique and while healing is not about you, it is very much about where you are at and the clarity of the relationships you have with the source of healing; so the energy can flow between what we call piko's (centres/energy points). For Hawaii nei, we had over 400,000 Gods and Goddesses, and then there is our family in spirit and form, the Guardians (na aumakua) and Ancestors (poe Kahiko).
We are one of the oldest and most extensive lineages from the Hawaiian island chain with the first settlement dating back to 650 AD, located at the easternmost point of Halawa Valley on the island of Molokai. Mana O Kahiko - Spirit Power of Our Ancestors is a foundation of these traditional Hawaiian practices. Kumu Pa'a Kawika Foster is the 51st generation of traditional practitioners and teachers from this lineage. He was accepted as a student of Kumu Paʻa Nui Lawrence Aki the 50th generation and student to Kumu Hula Pilipo Solatorio 49th generation in 2007, since the initiation he lived with his teacher in the secluded valley of Halawa and training was conducted on an oral basis, stories, chants and dance were taught through listening, observing, and repeated until Mastery.
It is through our everyday lives, we have an opportunity to align ourselves and meet life with aloha - unconditional love, to carry out our daily tasks pono - righteously and to care for our family relations, to live in harmony, healthy and happy. This is the purpose of sharing the teachings of our ancestors. We can restore our deepest connections, free and clear our relationship with the higher being/s and have an opportunity to make a direct connection to a Traditional Hawaiian Kumu, an expert in the realm of healing.
If you are inspired to know more, welina mai kakou, we welcome all to Mana O Kahiko - Spirit Power of Our Ancestors.
