KALO - HALOA - THE ANCIENT ANCESTOR
When Ho'ohokukalani and Wakea the Sky Father come together Ho'ohokukalani became pregnant with a son. Ho'ohokukalani and Wakea named this son Haloa Naka, at his birth Haloa Naka was still born. Where Ho'ohokukalani and Wakea buried there son Haloa the first Kalo come to be. Ho'ohokukalani and Wakea move away form one another, but return generations later. Ho'ohokukalani becomes pregnant with a second son, whom they name Haloa Maoli. Haloa Maoli is born and he dearly loves his older brother Haloa Naka and so Haloa Maoli cares for his old brother who has now taken the form of the Kalo.
There is a prophecy in our culture which shares with us " Malama e ke Kalo, e keia Malama e ke Kanaka Maoli, Make e ke Kalo, e keia Make e ke Kanaka Maoli"- which translates to mean "Care for the Kalo, and the Kalo will care for Kanaka Maoli, if the Kalo dies, then so will Kanaka Maoli die."
I am not a 'Hawaiian' this is a congressional term used to identify my people. The name of our people comes from these two brothers, Naka from the first born son and Maoli from the second born son. Kanaka Maoli translates to mean 'Mankind'. It is vital to remember in the Piko- the centre of our being that we are connected as one Ohana- Family to all that we find in existence. Our navel is our constant reminder of how we are connected on a spiritual level to Na Akua, Aumakua, and Po'e Kahiko.
HANAU E KE KANAKA MAOLI
"The Truth is awaiting for Those that are Seeking the Teachings of Our Ancestors."
